Bollocks is it, I'm a member of the local Cribbage club, so stick that up your pipe.

What you said was hardly football chat though was it? It was just a whiny, pointless little comment, just to get a reaction. You're a very tiresome bloke. It's no wonder this site is your entire social life.

A bit of football chat makes you feel like a victim, Nage? Blimey.

I won't bother you again, son. I'll stick to Sold0 in future.

Fifth,
Sorry, thought you meant it was in the centre. Think it is still a sod to get to though. Worst though are Everton and Liverpool. Absolute nightmare getting back to the city after the game.
Understand what you mean about the atmosphere there but thought it was quiet until they scored.
Ironically the worst grounds for atmosphere are the so called big six. Think they have a devine right to win and only sung when they score

Compared to some of the shit atmosphere you get at most stadiums, l thought it was a good atmosphere on Wednesday, l can't think of any ground in the Prem where it's better.

Also it's just off the ring road, so decent to get onto the motorway system.

Blimey Eerie. That's 3 separate threads you've had a pop at me on now. I know I'm on your list of people to stalk whenever Northern Sold ain't around for you to follow like a lovesick puppy, but it'd be nice if you found another victim for a change. Thanks.

Thank fuck good old Nage is here to explain what pressing is.

It's not his opinions, it's facts.

Dave

I mean it's in the middle of residential area.. it's not one of these identikit out of town places that is more like a shopping mall than a football ground. It's 2 miles from the station so is walkable.

And compared to many other away grounds they did make some noise. Many places are pretty much silent all match now. Elland Road isn't what it was in atmosphere but it's better than almost all the big clubs. Same could be said for us as the bowl.

Opinions as always :-) Agree that pressing effectively is a collective thing and needs to coached but Soucek is just too slow to be that good at it even if we worked as a unit but worse still are his passing stats when we do get the ball. Rice got isolated and passed around for the first Leeds goal with Paqueta doing the pressing pretty well and Soucek nowhere to be seen. You cannot fault his effort, work rate and attitude ( Soucek ) and he seems to be a really nice fella but for me just too slow for the modern era Premiership. I think we all got dazzled by the goals in his first season. You don’t worry so much if a bloke is contributing 10 or more goals a season from midfield.

I just want to see a Paqueta, Rice, Downes, Fornals midfield tried once but also coached to be fluid and do the pressing as a team. Alas ain’t gonna happen I know, Moyes is wedded to a game from the previous era ( prehistoric some might say ) where positions are fixed and movement and running limited to , in his mind, minimise the risk of getting countered against or a team getting in behind us too easily. It don’t work nowadays and teams find a way thru anyway by pressing us high and keeping the ball better than we do.

A lot of people don't really understand pressing. Like there was someone on here a while back who put up Fornal's percentage stats of winning possession from presses being really low, which is completely missing the point. If you're doing all the pressing on your own it's a waste of time and energy. Your team mates have to be cutting off passing lanes or marking opponents, but under Moyes as soon as we lose the ball he wants everyone to retreat back to their positions, so it's easy for the defenders to run circles round whoever is actually bothering to try to press.

Soucek might not have been winning possession but that type of roaming around, nipping at heels, etc. can at least break up the opposition rhythm instead of giving them time and comfort on the ball. Even though they weren't great players we've often had someone in the team doing this eg Reo-Coker and Behrami, and usually it's more useful than having them stick to position, which has happened with Soucek since last season when Moyes made him sit in front of the defence more to allow Rice to get forward.

To be fair, Alf, to effectively press you don’t necessarily have to be the one winning the ball. Your job is to hurry the opposition players in to making mistakes. I’m not saying Soucek did that especially well, but his work off the ball (aside from when he’s winning headers) is the best part of his game. Never an 8/10 performance though! He wouldn’t start for me, Fornals is just as effective doing the running and far better with the ball so make that his job and play Benrhama left wing.

Re: ⚽ Leeds v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
I see the match ratings on kumb have Soucek top with an 8 !! Said his pressing was excellent. Think they might be confused between effective pressing and running around a lot albeit not getting near the opposition players or touching the ball?

Middle of a city? It's a sod to get to and nowhere near the city centre.
And their support was shit until they scored.
Apart from that enjoyed the game. Two poor defences and the right result

We ( well me anyway ) just round and around discussing the obvious changes that need to be “tried”. These things have been suggested by many on here. The closed minded Moyes did do one of them finally by playing Paqueta in the number 8 role that he played successfully for Lyon.

Downes for Soucek - more mobile, better pressing and far superior passing. A Rice, Paqueta, Downes partnership will get and keep the ball better as Soucek is a passenger.
Zouma alongside Aguerd ( this one should happen).
Johnson back as a left or right back. Not great going forward but superior in defending compared to Cresswell. Kehrer and Coufal.
A loan or purchase a new left or right back.
Purchase or loan for a quick, strong forward if one available.
Get Bowen to play close to Scamacca in a 2 upfront. Get them working as a pair.
Play Fornal as a number 10 his proper position.
Get Areola in for Fab. Great shop stopper is Fab but we need a sweeper keeper and someone who can use his feet, pass and is quicker off his line. Fab now at 37 is rooted to his goal line and will only hoof it when receiving the ball.

Ok you also need Moyes and his coaches to get the team fit and drilling them to press for 90 mins and the team is limited now by a lack of pace but some of the changes are obvious as things to try.

I went to the Brentford game and even the old gits in the Billy Bonds stand were agreeing with people on here. It’s everyone but Moyes who sees the problems ?

Re: ⚽ Leeds v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Absolutely - they just seem unprepared and unaware of what each of them are supposed to be doing individually and together in order to be a cohesive unit.

I will give them this as the only out- there have been so many fucking injuries and issues in defence this season that we've barely played the same players in the same positions match to match. Almost never the same CB pairing game to game or full backs on either side.

But nevertheless it's not that hard. Far less talented individuals on other teams function much better as a solid group than our players seem to be able to. There are so many individual and basic mistakes that our players are making as well, which contribute to our downfall. That shit shouldn't be happening. Kehrer has been a bit of a liability so far. Sometimes I watch him and think it's astounding that he was a PSG player and IS a German international.

"It's not uncommon for opposition sides to waltz through us at least 1-2 times"

This is the 2nd biggest problem we have (first being not creating many scoring opportunities and being wasteful in front of goal).

You dont need world class defenders to have a good defence. You need to drill the defence into being rigid. Its just training ground drilling, nothing more.

Are we man marking or zonal? I dont really understand what we're doing. Others will know more than more on this. But it seems incredibly easy to drag one of our defenders away to allow for someone to just run through us. The guy that scores is always unmarked or has no opposing player. Its just too easy with us.

Cant they just close the gaps and be in rigid zones, just protect the space in front of them? Is it that hard to do? Leeds looked like Man City with their first goal.

You absolutely can say he can't shoot....... the bloke gets in so many good positions and then doesnt hit the target. Thats why everyone is saying he should now be a 8 alongside Rice, as he is dogshit in and around the box..... we bought him as a 10. Last season and season before should easily have hit double figures in the league with the chances he had.

I like him... bit off saying he can't shoot ... scored 20 goals for us... averages a goal every 7 games... oh granted could not hit a barn door last night but he's far from a non GS midfielder... that on top of the work rate... I like him... be in my starting XI

Agree- we seem so incapable of creating opportunities or unlocking other team's defences in the way Leeds did for their first goal. It's not uncommon for opposition sides to waltz through us at least 1-2 times a game and create really good chances (whether they take them or not) but we just seem incapable of doing so this season. We don't stretch teams, we don't create space with movement (despite other sides doing it to us all the time) we don't get in behind teams, we don't play quickly or 'transition' with any pace at all. It often looks like we are playing against more men.

Huge problem.

Anderson was good most of the first season. But before it finished he kind of lost motivation, like he got one those immune syndrome diseases that makes it hard to get out of bed…
